The Fine Point: Fall on Campus | September 2025

A Monthly Message from President Robert J. Fine, Jr. | Fall on Campus: Tradition, Community, and Growth

The halls are no longer quiet. Students are back, new faces are finding their way, and the rhythm of campus life has returned. From the moment we welcomed international students for their early arrival, we could feel the anticipation of a new year. They immersed themselves in Wisconsin life, many even learning what it means to be a Packers fan, before the rest of our community joined them. Their excitement set the tone for the year and reminded us that St. John’s Northwestern is a place where cultures meet and lasting friendships begin.

Fall is a season of change on campus. The leaves are beginning to turn, and our grounds reflect the shift in season, but the more important change is in our students. They are settling into new routines, building confidence, and seizing opportunities that will prepare them for the future as leaders. Classrooms, fields, and hallways are once again full of activity, and with that comes progress and growth.

Our 9/11 Tribute was a poignant reminder of the values we hold dear. The ceremony brought our community together in reflection and honor. That same sense of unity continues in the daily experiences that make this campus unique, from movie nights and picnics to the simple connection of gathering with friends after a busy day.

This fall also marked a milestone with our first Service Academy Day. Families, students, and representatives gathered for an event that showcased leadership and service pathways. It provided students with a chance to look ahead, ask questions, and better understand the opportunities that may shape their future.

As the fall season continues, the calendar is full and energy is high. Classes are underway, athletic teams are competing, and programs are thriving. Each week brings something new, whether it is a competition, a performance, or another moment that showcases student achievement.

We now look ahead to Fall Families Weekend, October 2-5, when the spirit of SJN will be on display. From the Athletics Golf Outing to the National Honor Society induction, from the Parents Mixer to the OBAA Pig and Chicken Roast, families will experience campus life alongside their students. Highlights also include a Drone Show, Varsity Soccer, Sword and Saber Ceremony, and the Formal Parade. Each event is an opportunity to connect, celebrate, and see the dedication of our students firsthand.

SJN is fully immersed in the year ahead. The months to come will bring many more moments of pride and accomplishment as our community continues to grow together. As we watch our students step into this new season full of energy, curiosity, and possibility, it is clear that the lessons they learn here extend far beyond the classroom. I am reminded of the words of Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” At St. John’s Northwestern, we see that power in motion each fall as students embrace change, build confidence, and prepare for lives of leadership and service.
