St. John’s Northwestern Expands Drone Program Through Partnership with Ruko Toy

Delafield, Wis. — St. John’s Northwestern is proud to announce a new partnership with Ruko Toy, marked by the generous donation of 30 drones to expand the Academy’s Drone Program within its Engineering, Robotics, and Aviation (ERA) curriculum.
The partnership was initiated by Ruko Toy, who sought out SJN after recognizing the Academy’s commitment to hands-on, future-focused education. Since the start of the collaboration, both organizations have emphasized ongoing engagement and shared storytelling, documenting student progress as the program evolves.
The first milestone took place January, 22 with an in-class unboxing, where students and faculty unveiled the drones and began exploring their capabilities. This moment marked the beginning of a series of instructional phases, with future milestones focused on students actively flying, programming, and applying the drones through coursework.
“We are incredibly grateful to Ruko Toy for their partnership and support of our SJN Drone Program,” said Eric Sanchez, Vice President of Programs and Advancement. “Their investment allows us to expand real-world, hands-on learning opportunities that strengthen our ERA curriculum and elevate students’ technical skills in aviation, engineering, and emerging technologies.”
As part of the partnership, SJN will continue to share progress through photography and video, capturing students as they put the drones to use in real instructional settings. These updates will highlight applications such as aerial photography and videography, flight training, location-based programming, and aviation safety.
Through this partnership with Ruko Toy, the SJN Drone Program has received a donation of thirty Ruko U11 Mini 4K (RC3) Drones in support of our program training and STEM development.
“Having access to this level of equipment transforms what students can do in the classroom,” said Melissa Steffens, Drone Instructor. “The donated drones enhance instruction and allow students to gain meaningful, hands-on experience in aerial imaging, programming, and flight operations. Together, these experiences inspire innovation, creativity, and confidence as students prepare for future careers in aerospace and STEM fields.”
SJN continues to invest in experiential learning opportunities that prepare students for college, careers, and life beyond the classroom. Strategic partnerships like this one with Ruko Toy reflect a shared commitment to innovation, education, and student success.
